Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme
   Home Page

Who we are

BYPHS was set up in 1992 to meet the needs of single young homeless people in Bolton. The Scheme runs in partnership with other agencies including housing associations. One Project Manager, three Support Workers, a Resettlement Worker, one part time Support Worker, the Administrator and part-time administrative assistant make up the team. The Support Workers help Scheme users to develop basic living skills and assist with any problems so that the clients can move on successfully to independence. The Resettlement Worker helps to find move on accommodation for residents and continue to provide support for a period after the resident has moved.

What we do.

Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme is a registered charity providing temporary supported accommodation to people aged 16-25 who are homeless and/or in special need.
We aim to promote independence with a strong emphasis on resident involvement. Support is provided on a needs led basis with staff available 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday. We have a Drop In on two afternoons a week, for all current and former residents.

We can accommodate 25 young people, all in self contained flats. We give assistance with keeping a tenancy, basic life skills, making benefit claims and identifying employment or further education prospects. We aim to help our residents move into permanent accommodation of their choice. We agree a resettlement package with each resident, which is tailored to their individual need. People leaving the Scheme to live independently are offered continued support for up to 12 months.

People who are referred to the Scheme should be able to manage independent living with low to medium support. The Scheme is not suitable for people with intensive or high support needs.

We take referrals direct from young people and also from statutory and voluntary agencies and housing associations.
