Supported Accommodation

Bolton Young Persons’ has 25 flats to rent to homeless and vulnerable young people. The flats are owned by three housing associations: Irwell Valley Housing Association rents us 11 flats, Contour Housing Group rents us nine flats and Places for People rent us 5 flats.

The flats are fully furnished, carpeted and curtained. We also supply bedding, towels, pots and plans, plates and cutlery. A young person can move in with nothing as we also have toiletries and tooth brushes.

A young person can stay up to two years with Bolton Young Persons. The average length of stay is around 12-13 months. All BYPHS residents get an assured shorthold tenancy that gives a minimum tenancy of six months.

When a young person has sufficient independent living skills to move into their own tenancy, the BYPHS Resettlement Worker helps to arrange a move on tenancy through Homes for Bolton. Once a tenancy has been found (about three months), we then help the young person to pack up, move and get settled in their new home. We continue to offer support in the move on flat for as long as it takes for the young person to feel settled and in control. This tends to take about 4-6 months for can take longer for some young people. We make sure that both the young person and the landlord know that we are willing to get involved again at any time should the move on tenancy be at risk.
